I guess everybody already knows the plot (more or less) and for the ones who don't I won't spoil anything, or at least I will try not to do it.
The cast is composed by Leo DiCaprio, who is Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire who acts as Nick Carraway, cousin of Daisy, portraied by Carey Mulligan.
As usual Leo has been amazing, Maguire not that much. Actually, the most surprising has been Isla Fisher, who performed a role completely different from the usual crazy girl

Also the soundtrack, which counts in some cool artists such as Florence + the machine, Jack White, Lana Del Rey and others, has been pretty good

Effectively what has disappointed me the most has been the direction by Baz Luhrman. Maybe because I totally loved the book, but I imagined a different movie, above all I didn't appreciate all the remarks to Moulin Rouge (such as the device of the penniless writer and the scene of Jay's death, which is too much similar to the on of Satine's death in Moulin Rouge), even though I loved Moulin Rouge a contamination wasn't needed. In addition there's been an overload of special effects due to the 3D version of the movie.
As for the settings and the scene I belived that gold and splendor would prevailed, at least from what I get from the posters (I know, this is an odd motivation).

m'ha deluso un po'. Sarà che ho adorato il libro, sarà che l'ho
caricato d'aspettative, ma lo immaginavo diverso, soprattutto non ho
apprezzato tutti i rifacimenti a Moulin Rouge (come l'espediente dello scrittore squattrinato e la scena della morte di Jay, che mi è sembrata troppo simile a quella di Satine in Moulin Rouge), per quanto ho amato quel
film, non ci sarebbe dovuta essere contaminazione. In più c'è stato un sovraccarico di effetti speciali in alcuni momenti del film che non ho molto apprezzato, atti a soddisfare la versione 3D del film
Poi mi aspettavo più oro, lo so che è strano ma dalle locandine, oltre ai colori, mi aspettavo una forte predominanza dell'oro (lo so, questa motivazione è stupida).

Eventually I liked the film, but potentially it could have really be great.
Comunque, nel complesso, il film m'è piaciuto, ma in potenza poteva essere sul serio grande.
